Without a doubt, the highlight of the Burr Trail was the drive through Muley Twist Canyon and the associated Burr Trail switchbacks, a drop of 800 feet in one mile. Don’t think about taking a large motorhome or towing a travel trailer or boat down these steep, narrow switchbacks, the turns are just too sharp and the road too narrow to maneuver. The Burr Trail connects Bullfrog and Boulder, passing through Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, Capitol Reef National Park, and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. Please note: Although in dry weather the Burr Trail is easily accessible to passenger cars, wet weather may make the road impassable even for 4-wheel drive vehicles.

The Long Canyon Slot trail is located in the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument east of Boulder, Utah on the Burr Trail Road. The road can be travelled with a passenger vehicle from spring to fall during dry conditions. Due to a high clay consistency, the road may be impassable even to vehicles with 4WD after a storm—check the weather before you travel.

A short distance down the road from the border the Peek-A-Boo Arch at Upper Muley Twisted Canyon comes in to view. The first half mile of the side road to this area is passable for passenger cars, then the road enters Upper Muley Twist Canyon and is recommended only for 4WD vehicles. One of the highlights of the trip is the Burr Trail Switchbacks.
